Compress Image to 50KB Online

The 50KB target is selected. Choose your photos for local compression, then check and download each JPG. No app or upload.

Choose a limit. Results leave a 500-byte safety margin.

Optional form requirements

Leave empty to keep the existing compression behavior. Enter both pixel dimensions to resize exactly; this may change the image’s proportions. We try higher JPEG quality to meet a minimum and enlarge proportionally only when exact pixel dimensions are not specified. A result that cannot meet all requirements is marked as failed.

A practical size for application photos

When a recruitment application, scholarship portal or visa document field sets a 50KB maximum, resize image to 50kb here before attaching it. The exact limit and required pixel dimensions depend on the form.

You can compress jpeg to 50kb from a larger phone photo. The tool balances JPEG quality and resolution, keeping each successful file at 49,500 bytes or less so it stays below a decimal 50KB limit.

Your results show the original size, actual output size and dimensions. Open the image comparison to inspect the face, signature or document text before downloading. PNG transparency is replaced with white.

Frequently asked questions

Can a large phone photo fit below 50KB without looking blocky?

Often, yes. Reducing excess resolution lets a smaller JPEG retain a readable face at a higher quality. Very detailed scenes will lose detail. Check the comparison and choose a larger permitted target when clarity matters more.

Is 50KB the same as 51,200 bytes?

Some systems use different byte conventions. This tool uses 1KB=1,000 bytes and a 500-byte compression margin, so a successful 50KB result is at most 49,500 bytes.

Why is my file still over the limit after compressing?

A successful 50KB result is at most 49,500 bytes. We use decimal KB (1KB = 1,000 bytes) and leave a 500-byte safety margin. A binary KB (1,024 bytes) allows more bytes, so that convention is more lenient. Check the actual byte count against the form’s displayed limit. If the result says Target not met, try cropping excess space or a larger allowed target. A form can also reject a file for its minimum size, pixel dimensions or format.

How many pixels is a 50KB photo?

There is no fixed conversion between KB and pixels. KB measures file size; pixels measure width and height. Photos with the same pixel dimensions can differ several times in file size because their content and JPEG quality differ. Read the actual output dimensions in your results and follow the separate pixel requirements shown on your form.

Should I use JPG or PNG for a form upload?

JPEG usually creates smaller files for photographs. PNG preserves sharp lines, text and transparency, but photographic PNG files can be much larger. Follow the format required by your form. This tool always outputs JPG and replaces transparency with white, so it is not suitable when a transparent background is required.

Is my photo uploaded to a server?

No. Your image is processed entirely in your browser. The photo or signature is not sent to a server; preview and download use local files on your device.

Does this work on a phone?

Yes, it works in supported, up-to-date mobile browsers. Processing time depends on your phone, image dimensions and the number of selected files. Images are handled one at a time in a background Worker so you can keep using the page.

Can I also set a minimum size or exact pixel dimensions?

Yes. Enter a minimum KB and both Width and Height in pixels under Optional form requirements. Leave them empty to compress only to the target upper limit. When provided, the results check file size, pixel dimensions and JPG format individually and explain which requirement failed.
